A 17-year-old boy has been charged with serious assault after an alleged attack on a teenage girl at the weekend.
The 16-year-old girl was walking on William Blvd in Pimpama at about 2.30pm on Saturday when she was allegedly accosted by a group of young people, including the 17-year-old boy.
Superintendent Peter Miles said police will allege the boy wanted her shoes.
Supt Miles said the young girl called her mum who was quickly on scene, as well as police.
Both the girl and her mother sustained minor injuries but neither were taken to hospital.
“As police have arrested (the 17-year-old), he has become quite aggressive and had to be taken to the ground,” he said.
“As he’s been picked up to walk to the police vehicle he’s then (allegedly) spat at police.”
He said police would also allege the young man was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time.
“It’s quite a harrowing experience for a young girl, and one that she shouldn’t be put through.”
The 17-year-old will appear in court on December 11.
