Detectives have arrested a teen in relation to a violent attempted robbery of an expensive electric dirt bike on the Gold Coast.
A 14-year-old boy was left with facial injuries and a black eye after he was set-upon and repeatedly kicked and punched on the ground in what police say was a random and unprovoked attack back in June.
CCTV captured the moment the alleged teen offender approached the young boy and his school friends along the Gold Coast Highway at Burleigh Heads.
In the footage the victim is pushed to the ground and a boy grabs the bike by the handle bars. As the victim refuses to let go, the other teen appears to stomp on him and then throws a punch at him. The boy is repeatedly attacked while on the ground. It’s at this point, one of his friends intervenes, kicking the attacker and knocking him over. In an attempt to stop the bike from being stolen, the friend grabs the key from the ignition and runs off. The attacker chases after him but is unable to keep up.
The bike was a Sur-Ron Light Bee X, they’re an electric replacement for a dirt bike and worth up to $8000 new. Following the violent attack, police released a public appeal for information including footage of a silver-grey Mitsubishi Lancer that the alleged teen offender was a passenger in. The public response helped detectives from the Burleigh Criminal Investigations branch make an arrest.
