NSW residents are likely to get a reprieve this week from the wild weather that blasted through the state on the long weekend.

The small town of Mandalong scored a huge 154mm in the 24 hours to 9am on Monday, followed by nearby Lake Macquarie with 135mm and Windale on 139mm.

Newcastle recorded 102mm within the same period, on top of the 42mm of rain it copped in the previous 24 hours.

Large rainfall totals were also recorded in the 24 hours to Sunday morning, including 154mm at Turners Flat and 99mm at Bowraville.

Areas of Sydney were also hammered by rain - with Randwick recording 54mm by Sunday morning - but conditions eased later on Sunday.

The wet weather is expected to ease across NSW on Monday as the low-pressure system responsible moves further away from the coast.

The Sydney metropolitan and coastal regions are still tipped to receive showers, but the Bureau of Meteorology predicts rainfall totals are likely to be much lower in comparison to the weekend’s deluge.

Residents are warned that various watch and act alerts remain in place on Monday due to the risk of flooding in the coastal towns of Dungog, Clarence Town, Seaham, North Macksville and Thora.

In the north west of the state, residents near Enngonia, the Fords Bridge Bywash, Willara, Wanaaring and the Willara Crossing have also been advised not to enter floodwaters.

A marine wind warning was also issued by the Bureau at 4am on Monday morning for Coffs Coast, Byron Coast, Macquarie Coast, Hunter Coast, Sydney Coast and Illawarra Coast.

Minor flooding has impacted The Central Coast, Newcastle and Hunter train lines, with commuters told to expect delays as buses replace trains.

“It is crucial to keep on top of the latest forecasts and warnings,” meteorologist Miriam Bradbury said.

Western Australians are being warned of a completely opposite danger on Monday, with hot and windy conditions expected to increase fire danger in parts of the state.

The warning level is high for the Midwest Coast, Gascoyne Coast, Exmouth Gulf Coast and Ashburton.

Temperatures in the state’s capital are expected to peak at a pleasant 25C.

Partly cloudy conditions are expected in Brisbane, Adelaide, Hobart, Canberra and Darwin.

Brisbane is expected to reach 28C with winds reaching up to 25km/h, and there is a slight chance of showers in Adelaide with the forecasted maximum temperature of 21C.
