The championships provides an opportunity for students with a disability to test themselves in competition.
Varsity College finished second, Canungra State School was named the March Past winner and Burleigh Heads State School won the Daphne Pirie award.
The event also included a wheelchair race featuring mascots from the likes of the Gold Coast Suns AFL club, Gold Coast Titans NRL club and Southport Sharks.
“The Gold Coast’s Athletics Carnival stands as the region’s only event dedicated to children with a disability, bringing together participants aged 5 to 18 from areas as far south as Banora Point to Loganholme in the north, and Canungra to the west,” Gold Coast Recreation and Sport Inc Projects Manager Akaisha Porter said.
“This carnival plays a vital role in the personal growth of these children, who seldom have the opportunity to engage in competitive athletics.
“The carnival offers an inclusive platform where children with disability can compete in timed events alongside their peers.
“Additionally, this event serves as a gateway to competitive sports by identifying talent for the Special Olympics and Paralympics Programs.
“As we mark our 37th year of organising this event, we feel honoured and deeply value the opportunities it creates for the students.
“The inspiring stories and enthusiasm generated by this carnival are crucial for giving these children the chance not just to participate, but to be competitive.”
