Hearts were shattered and tickets were booked to the AFLQ Schools Cup state finals in a blockbuster day of junior footy on the Gold Coast.
Top draft prospects through to spritely year 7s were in action across the day at People First Stadium.

Senior female
Ava Maher
School: Palm Beach Currumbin
Maher was PBC’s greatest threat in the forward line. She had good hands and clunked several strong marks, but could also find space and finished off her chances well, and even landed a nursing bump. Unfortunately her day was cut short when she picked up an injury in the third quarter.
Evie Emmett
School: Palm Beach Currumbin
Emmett played a strong contested game in the middle and a highlight was her ability to hit targets by hand under significant pressure.
Mikayla Nurse
School: Pacific Pines
Nurse showed good dash down the wing and she reaped the rewards of her positioning on numerous occasions as she persistently held her width in a very congested game. Rarely misstepped by foot and hit plenty of targets, and had a crucial hand in her side’s only goal in the final term.
Havana Harris
School: Varsity College
The Bond QAFLW talent and draft fancy silly looked a class above for Varsity. Despite her towering presence Harris’ athleticism set her apart and her thumping right boot was clearly the best of anyone on the field.
Niamh McCarthy
School: St Rita’s College
McCarthy had some impressive moments in defence, saving a goal as the sweeper behind the ball and produced some clean kicks to get her side out of trouble at times.
Raffael Baviello
School: St Teresa’s College
Baviello had brilliant pace and strength, highlighted by an exceptional run down the wing where she took a handful of bounces and fended off two opponents, unforced she failed to finish the superb effort by hitting her target.
Samantha Snowden
School: Stuartholme School
Used her dash superbly in the backline to get her side out of trouble at times, and was also a strong kick.
Junior female
Holly Larkin
School: Marymount College
Larkin was crucial in Marymount’s win, sneaking forward from the wing late to kick the winning goal against the wind. It capped off an outstanding on wing where she was clean with her hands, and was able to cut the opposition open on several occasions. Also had pace to burn and was frequently turning 20-metre plays into 50-metre plays.
Violet A’Bell and Tilly Grogan
School: Marymount College
Marymount’s ruck duo was pivotal in its narrow win as the pair made contests where necessary, were mobile around the ground and gave the midfield first use more often than not with strong tap work.
Grace Cooper
School: Helensvale SHS
Cooper made strong attacking runs aplenty for Helensvale, is a smart footballer, and could also set up well behind the ball and intercept when needed.
Kayley Veith
School: Helensvale SHS
Veith put her sweeping left foot to good use and was able to provide some deep and long kicks inside 50m time and time again to propel her side forward.
Osheya Allen
School: Helensvale SHS
Allen played a great game at full back and stopped Marymount with her defensive prowess.
Jade Radford
School: Varsity College
Radford was particularly clean with her hands in the midfield and that largely proved the difference in what was a scrappy game. She got the ball forward on plenty of occasions with clean one touch, handball efforts.
Indi Plum
School: Varsity College
Plum had a solid day in the forward line for her side and impressed with plenty of nice efforts.
Elsie Mae-Hoath
School: Varsity College
The Varsity College ruck impressed. She gave the midfield first use and could make a target of herself where needed. As such, she was still impactful when resting forward or behind the footy.
Airlie Pace
School: Cleveland District
Pace worked hard on the ball all day for Cleveland and just didn’t stop.
Breeze Ruka
School: Cleveland District
Ruka asked her coach to be on the ball pre-game and she followed up her desire with a strong performance as she won plenty of the footy.
Lily Moana
School: Palm Beach Currumbin
Moana was pivotal in the midfield for Palm Beach Currumbin and her drive with the ball was outstanding.
Nikki Sandeman
School: Palm Beach Currumbin
Sandeman was a key figure at half back, she changed the angles up well as PBC moved the ball forward and really got her side going.
Sage Crossley
School: Palm Beach Currumbin
The Suns academy talent dazzled In the ruck, she was super strong and dominant and her follow up work was really good.
Ivy Smith
School: Palm Beach Currumbin
Smith clunked some great intercept marks at fullback for PBC.
Stella Tait, Jovie Telfort, Freya McIntosh and Isabella Dunton
School: Mountain Creek SHS
The Mountain Creek quartet were gallant in defeat and did a really good job at taking the game on and taking territory. Their skills were beautiful around the footy.
Senior male
Myles Callaghan
School: Cleveland District
Turned heads in one of the early passages of play where he scored a brilliant first goal from 50 metres out and followed it up with a strong centre clearance at the following bounce. Had a solid outing.
Sam Wudnke
School: Palm Beach Currumbin
Wudnke took a great grab flying across in front of the pack at one point and played a crucial game all day as a key tall. Looked good in the ruck and clunked several crucial grabs, moved well considering he was the tallest player on the field.
Willis Del-Re
School: Palm Beach Currumbin
Del-Re was a zippy player and he used his speed well for the Reds. Also stood tall in tackles and was tough to bring down despite his small stature.
Zeke Uwland
School: All Saints Anglican School
Highly touted AFL draft prospect, and brother of Suns up and comer Bodhi Uwland, Zeke impressed for All Saints on Tuesday. He was a presence at stoppages and in the middle of the field, laid some good tackles, and took good territory with his kick outs.
Lery James
School: St Lawrence’s College
James was lively at half forward all day for St Lawrence’s and his highlight was a brilliant goal on the run from 45 metres out.
Ben Gomersall
School: St Lawrence’s College
Gomersall clunked some crucial marks in the forward line for St Lawrence’s and had plenty of nice moments forward of the ball.
Luke Bourke
School: Helensvale SHS
Bourke provided Helensvale with good run and drive up the middle of the ground and with a number of strong forward 50 entries.
Luke Chapman
School: St Lawrence’s College
Chapman had a very solid game down back and not only intercepted, but also distributed the footy very well.
Jordan Chambers
School: Padua College
Chambers was pivotal in providing Padua with both intercepting and rebound off the half back flank.
Jasper Rumney
School: Padua College
Rumney looked good at times in the midfield for Padua, he was composed on the ball and hit his targets under pressure.
Junior male
Jackson Noble
School: Brisbane South
Noble was very composed all day despite being just 15 years of age. He made good decisions, hit his targets, and also snagged a few majors.
Luke Estreich
School: Brisbane South
Was pivotal in the backline and provided some important lockdown defensive work for Brisbane South.
Benjamin Kesler
School: St Lawrence’s College
Kesler was fantastic off half back for St Lawrence’s, he competed well and evened his contest in a strong match up, while also providing attack off half back.
Cooper Young
School: St Lawrence’s College
Young moved onto wing and played well, he was the cleanest on a day where his side was somewhat messy on the ball.
Hugh Stanbury
School: Villanova College
Stanbury was a standout for Villanova. He did a job on Palm Beach Currumbin captain and danger man Kodi Wallace and kept him subdued. Villanova’s entire spine was also solid.
Zac Gale
School: Palm Beach Currumbin
Gale was Palm Beach Currumbin’s best in the scrappy win, he was strong, won good centre clearances and was one of the cleanest players.
Levi Thompson
School: Palm Beach Currumbin
Thompson may have been the smallest kid on the ground but bobbed up for three goals in the forward line and was really clean with the footy.
Max Collins
School: Padua College
Collins played in the midfield for Padua and was dominant.
Jackson Kernick
School: Padua College
Kernick had a positive impact forward of the ball and was able to both clunk big marks and kicked a few goals.
Kaiden Bellero
School: Padua College
Bellero’s leadership was a feature, the Padua captain led his team well and generally played a strong game.
Brooklyn Cannan
School: Marymount College
Canna was pivotal down back for Marymount despite the hefty loss and played a solid game.
Harlin Blackman and Jasper Smith
School: Marymount College
Marymount’s captain and vice-captain led from the front in the midfield and both players were strong.
Levi Carroll
School: Marymount College
Carroll capped off an impressive forward line showing with two goals in the final term.
