Titans Physical Disability Rugby League team step onto field for first time

It’s a moment years in the making as the Titans Physical Disability Rugby League team step onto the field for the first time ever to take on some of the game’s legends.

IT is a moment years in the making.

For many, it will be the first time they run on to a footy field in a competitive sense, cruelled by a physical disability that has seen them confined to the sidelines.

But tomorrow, when the Titans Physical Disability Rugby League (PDRL) team crosses the sideline, the dreams of diehard rugby league fans will be fulfilled.

The boys with a range of physical and mental disabilities will go head to head with a side built up of legends of the game, including Preston Campbell, Scott Prince, Ben Hannant and Clinton Toopi.

For captain-coach Terry Litton, the chance to mix it up with not only legends of the sport, but to play alongside some great guys, was too good a chance to miss.

“All the boys are really looking forward to it, it’s going to be a great game,” Litton said.

“The boys have been training hard and it’s going to be great for us to run on to Cbus stadium.

“We’ll be playing against a lot of these young boys’ heroes … I think our blokes will be trying to put shots on and the sledging will be coming pretty thick.

“To play against guys like Preston and Clinton Toopi, it’s a real honour.”

Titans executive chairman Dennis Watt said it was inspiring to see the PDRL team get a chance to play before the first grade side.

“For these guys to fulfil their dreams is so inspiring. They’ve had to overcome so many things — most rugby league players do, but these guys come from a long, long way back,” Mr Watt said.

“To see the joy in their faces as they pull on their Titans jersey, it’s brilliant.”

The PDRL side plays the curtain raiser to the Titans-Knights game tomorrow at Cbus, with kick-off from 11.25am.
