HE isn’t even old enough to drive a car yet, but that hasn’t stopped a plucky teenager from taking off on a world record-breaking solo flight around Australia.
Bob Bramley, 16, is hoping to become the youngest pilot to circumnavigate Australia solo and unassisted after taking off from his home in Tasmania in his Cessna 172M on Monday.

He was given a warm welcome as he landed on the Gold Coast for an overnight stop as part of his 15,000km journey.
Gold Coast Airport and Bilinga business Platinum Business Aviation Centre teamed up to help the teen achieve his dream by donating fuel and waiving airport fees as he stopped to rest up.
Gold Coast Airport General Manager Operations and Service Delivery Brett Curtis said the local aviation community was keen to see the young pilot achieve his goal.

“It’s great to see a pilot as young as Bob continue to strive towards achieving such a goal. Australia is a big continent — what better way to see it than from the air, circumnavigating our magnificent coastline?” Mr Curtis said.
So far Bob has raised more than $8900 through his fundraising page at chuffed.org/project/surviving-turbulence.
All money raised will go to mental health charity Beyond Blue to raise awareness of youth suicide.
