ELLIE Brooks’ week has just been super-sized.

As revealed by Bulletin surf columnist Andrew McKinnon on Wednesday, the 22-year-old was named as the ambassador for the 2020 Global Wave Conference.

Yesterday, Brooks’ week got better when the Southern Cross University business student was handed the solo wildcard entry into the Boost Mobile trials at Snapper Rocks next week.

The born-and-bred Gold Coaster scored the only wildcard entry into the trials for the event formerly known as the Roxy Pro thanks to her winning Instagram surfing video entry, which was judged and announced by surf great Sally Fitzgibbons this week.

Brooks, a goofy footer with a strong backhand, is part of her university’s Elite Athlete Program which supports students achieve academic excellence while pursuing the their sporting career.

Brooks said the conference, launched at Southern Cross University yesterday, will host delegates from around the world in February next year and spark innovation to tackle the world’s most challenging ocean issues.

“Everything is happening and it’s all exciting. It’s huge that Australia will be hosting the Global Wave Conference in 2020 – it’s really cool,” the Coolangatta local said.

“I’m really honoured to be the global ambassador. It’s important as a surfer to support the cause, encourage everyone in the surfing community to get involved.”

Brooks is ranked 39th in the women’s qualifying series after making the fourth round in Manly last week.

A member of the Mermaid Nobbys Miami Boardriders Club, Brooks has spent the past year on the world tour travelling to Japan, Mexico, USA, El Salvador, Europe and Australia.

Next year will be the sixth edition of the biannual conference.

Registration is now open following yesterday’s launch.
