BOOM Time and Johannes Vermeer are set for a rematch in the Melbourne Cup after connections of both gallopers decided to head straight to Flemington.
Trainer David Hayes, who owns 100 per cent of Boom Time, joked he had “a quick meeting with the owner” and decided the Caulfield Cup winner would be given a crack at next month’s Melbourne Cup.

Lloyd Williams confirmed Johannes Vermeer, a luckless third at Caulfield Cup, would also tackle the Melbourne Cup and Ben Melham would retain the ride.
Williams will also chase a record sixth Cup with last year’s winner Almandin.
Hayes was impressed by Boom Time’s toughness, confirming Cory Parish would be aboard for the Melbourne Cup.
“Watching the replay what I liked about him was how well he stayed,” Hayes said.
“He had such a hard run and he stayed the distance (2400m) better than most of them.
“He was strong to the line and on that it worth taking on the two miles (3200m).’’
Hayes said as Boom Time had backed-up into the Caulfield Cup after contesting the Herbert Power Stakes he didn’t need another run before the Melbourne Cup.
Hayes said the Caulfield Cup was a non-event for Harlem, who finished eighth.
“It was almost like he didn’t have a race as he didn’t have much luck,” he said.
Hayes said Harlem was likely to have another run before the Melbourne Cup as he was down the qualifying order.
Hayes said Ventura Storm had pulled up with a hoof problem after finishing 13th in the Caulfield Cup.
“I was pleased we found something in a way as the run was well below his best,” he said.
Hayes said he would get a farrier to check on Ventura Storm in the next 24 hours and take it from there.
“Hopefully it will be resolved as otherwise he will go out for a spell,” he said.
Hugh Bowman will stick with Marmelo after Hughie Morrison’s star surged from near the tail of the field to dead-heat for sixth.
Tiberian’s connections will now intensify their search for a Cup rider.
