King’s Christian College’s rugby program has led the region in selections for the 2020 South Coast under-18s representative team.
The performance of students from Reedy Creek college has inspired selectors to entrust seven players with jerseys to contest the Queensland Regional Championships later this year.
The entire King’s front row of Koji Goulding, Caleb Flavell and Clayton Terita have been selected together, with lock Hayden Small and flanker Reegan Chalmers the fourth and fifth forwards from the First XV to be picked.
In the backs, playmakers Xavier McEldowney and Cooper Petronaitis will help steer the South Coast around the park.
Traditional powerhouse Somerset College had five students selected as the other major contributor to the team.
Selectors have cast their net further than just the APS private school competition, with eight players drawn from non-traditional rugby schools including Keebra Park, Palm Beach Currumbin and Helensvale State High.
The team trained for the first time this week.
