King’s Christian College have launched a broadside salvo warning the rest of the APS First XV competition that the road to the final must go through them.
Talented flyhalf recruit Xavier McEldowney led King’s on a 62-7 romp over Coomera Anglican College in his First XV debut for his new school.
The Kiwi-born Gold Coast Cyclones playmaker combined well with Helensvale Hogs club teammates Tyler Maxwell and Flynn Carson as Kings leapt to the top of the APS leaderboard with a clinical round one performance.
XAVIER MCELDOWNEY HIGHLIGHTS
The school defeated perennial favourites Somerset College for the first time in their rugby history with a 12-0 pre-season victory but that result counts for little now round one is in the books.
Their rematch, in the final round of competition on May 8, could dictate whether the sides will meet for a third time in 2020 in the APS Grand Final on 15 May.
APS FIRST XV: 2020 SEASON PREVIEW
Somerset joined King’s in the winners circle after Saint Stephen’s College forfeited their fixture, playing a 12-a-side friendly instead.
AB Paterson missed the class of Queensland representative winger Noah Fielding in going down 45-5 to co-defending champions All Saints.
Emmanuel College had the first round bye.
