Part-owner of Winx details whether or not they will keep her foal or sell her

The foal of wonder mare Winx will be old enough to come through the 2024 Magic Millions Yearling Sales. But will her owners take her through the ring or keep the filly to race with. Their next move detailed here.

WONDER mare Winx could instigate a wonder purchase at next year’s Magic Millions Yearling Sales.

In what would be a show stopping event, the first foal of the legendary horse could grace the same stage as her famous dam in 2024.

Winx welcomed her first foal in October last year, a filly by Pierro in the Hunter Valley, and will be old enough to come through the yearling sales by next year.

Owners of the champion mare, Peter Tighe, Debbit Kepitis and the Treweeks family, now have the enviable task of deciding whether to keep the filly and race her themselves or sell her.

If they decide to race her the owners will hope the filly can enjoy even a small part of the success of Winx who was the highest stakes earning racehorse in the history of world racing with $26,451,174 in prizemoney won while running for trainer Chris Waller.

The mare won a world record 25 Group 1 races.

If they sell then the $2.7 million sales record set last Friday at the Magic Millions Yearling Sales for a colt from sire I Am Invincible would likely be eclipsed by a filly who could become the most sought after horse in the world.

Tighe, who was part of the group who bought Winx for $230,000 at the Yearling Sales in 2013 from vendor Coolmore Stud, said a decision was six around six months away.

“We have not made a decision on whether we sell her or keep her for ourselves,” Tighe said.

“We will let her grow, see what she looks like and let her enjoy the rest of this time as a young filly.

“We have no even discussed it yet. Around June or July we will get together and see what we want to do. Ten different things could happen between now and then.

“We will base (the decision) off price, what she is worth, if we want to race her or sell.”

There is no rules in place stating the filly must be sold at the same sales as her dam, with Winx’s owners able to take the mare to other auctions under like Inglis.

Despite the hype that would come with continuing Winx’s legacy with the brand by bringing through her filly, Magic Millions CEO Barry Bowditch declined to speculate on their interest in the horse or what kind of price tag she would fetch.
