A BATTLE over a name, a rivalry in the family and a sweet snack could provide Invinsible Tears with the motivation to win the $2m Magic Millions 3YO Guineas.
The three-year-old filly stands as one of the most intriguing runners heading towards the Guineas, to be held on January 15 at the Gold Coast Turf Club.
A Group 1 runner who finished second in the Group 2 Spirit of Boom Classic at Doomben in May, Invinsible Tears has come back from a two-week break at the paddock following a second-up win at the Gold Coast earlier this month as trainer Gillian Heinrich sets the filly for her summer grand final.
“She will go into a 1200m race, then a 1350m and then the 1400m Magic Millions Guineas,” Heinrich said.
“She is very strong, forward going and has a big heart.”
Heinrich said Invinsible Tears was coming into her own as a three-year-old.
“I was a bit surprised by her last prep because she was not really a two-year-old,” Heinrich said.
“She was going to be a better three-year-old.
“She was big and raw but she just did it and got to those group races.
“I didn’t think she was mature enough for the 2YO Classic last year so we just got her ready for the winter carnival. Now it is her time to shine.”
Heinrich’s daughter, Tayla, has spent recent years delving into the bloodstock operations of the family’s racing operation and discovered Invinsible Tears at the 2020 Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
It was a day after arriving home from a stint in Germany and she was drawn to the filly whose dam, Networking, hailed from the same country.
“I thought I’d go for a walk around the sales and I was actually walking out when the last complex, Arrowfield, had a filly from a German mare.
“We have had quite a lot of luck with Arrowfield and I quite liked the look of her when they pulled her out of the box.
“She had a bit of sass about her. She can be a b**** sometimes but I quite like that.
“I mentioned her to mum who said she had also looked at her a day earlier so that was a good sign.”
Invinsible Tears, fuelled by licorice snacks at the Heinrich stables, has gone on to win $152,350 in prizemoney so far.
“She loves licorice. I go down and see her in the box and if I don’t have any she will not talk to me. If I do then she is my best friend,” Tayla said.
Tayla had planned to call the filly Invisible Tears but a mix-up in paperwork left the horse with its current name.
“There is a discrepancy between myself and Racing Australia as to who spelt it wrong,” Tayla said.
“I saw it in writing for the first time the day before she was meant to trial. I called up to change it but I couldn’t do it before the trial and then dad (Hoss Heinrich) got into my head about it being bad luck to change it.”
Heinrich has bought another horse since and made sure she kept a copy of the application.
She was 14-years-old when she stood trackside when Gillian Heinrich won the 2010 Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
Now, Heinrich hopes to play an even bigger part in another major Millions win for the family.
She isn’t just up against rival stables in her bid to get Invinsible Tears to the $2m Magic Millions 3YO Guineas, but also her father.
Hoss purchased Oriental Princess at the same 2020 Magic Millions sales and got one up over his daughter when his filly beat Invinsible Tears in their trial debut to win.
He is targeting the Guineas with Oriental Princess and Tayla said the friendly competition was back on between them.
Heinrich, who has spent recent years delving into the bloodstock operations of the family’s racing operation, discovered Invinsible Tears at the 2020 Magic Millions Yearling Sale and is preparing to launch towards the Guineas on January 15.
Competing with her is father Hoss who hopes his horse Oriental Princess can make the same field.
The duo have shared a friendly rivalry since both horses began their careers, with Oriental Princess getting the early honours by winning a trial ahead of Invinsible Tears.
