Livestreaming of the Queensland Schools Premier League kicked off this morning, with three qualifying matches at www.couriermail.com.au from 9.30am.
Subscribers have full access to today’s games, another three qualifying matches tomorrow and then the semi-finals (August 14) and grand final (20) while also gaining access to he best news and content from every News Corp newspaper throughout Australia.

PALM BEACH CURRUMBIN SHS GEARS UP FOR TITLE DEFENCE
“The SPL is a great competition for our school to be a part of. It gives us the opportunity to test our players against the best football schools in south east Queensland,’’ said Murrumba Downs SSC college football academy head Chris Maher said.
“As a coach we get the opportunity to meet with the other coaches and share our ideas and visions and to ultimately help each other develop our players.’’
Murrumba SSC has a proud record in the SPL, having won the 2019 junior boys competition while the senior girls reached the semi-finals last year.
Maher said Murrumba’s squad had been training hard but his team’s excellent preparation was a whole of school community effort..
“We train on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, and our parents and students have shown an amazing level of commitment to get to everyone to training sessions.
“It will definitely be considered a whole school achievement, rather than just the players who are selected to represent each other.
“All of our students have been committing to these training sessions and we are continually challenging each to improve.’’

SENIOR BOYS
Murrumba SSC v Aspley SHS
Aspley SHS’s Juan Murillo scored two crisp goals as his side edged out Murrumba State Secondary College 3-1 in an absorbing senior boys encounter.
Murillo struck in the first half and early in the second half as Aspley made the most of their chances in an even game.
A quick turnover enabled Murillo to sum up the situation and net the second goal from 30m out, driving a shot into the back of the net from afar when he noticed the Murrumba keeper out of his box.
The 2-nil scoreline was misleading in that Murrumba SSC had at least equal, if not slightly more, possession.
Therefore it was no surprise when Murrumba did get on the score sheet with a tremendous team goal to cut the deficit to 2-1.
The game then swung from one end to the other, with Murrumba continuing to control more ball.But it was Aspley who dealt the killer blow with Jaylen Leahy scoring to make it 3-1.
Aspley SHS coach Tom Fanning was pleased to see his side take their chances
“Whatever they threw at us, we matched them physically and football wise,’’ Fanning said.
He said there were patches when both side played their game, but his team produced a “very strong competitive performance.’’Murrumba coach Marc Wheeler said:
“If I was being honest I feel like we probably played a bit better football but Aspley were really organised defensively and a few mistakes by us were punished by Aspley so full credit to them. They deserved that win.”
SENIOR GIRLS
Aspley SHS v Murrumba State Secondary College
Murrumba SSC enjoyed a convincing 8-0 win in Queensland Schools Premier League action this morning.
Murrumba scored four goals in each half during an even team performance.Ali Moffat, Jolianne Cruz, Abbey Brooks and Thalia Cameron all scored two goals each in the win.
Murrumba SSC coach Scott Boldy was happy with the performance.
“Normally we do create a lot of chances, but to finish them I think will give us confidence in the next match against Palm Beach,’’ Boldy said.”
SENIOR BOYS
Aspley SHS v Palm Beach Currumbin SHS
The PBC SHS senior boys flexed their muscles to record a 10--0 win over Aspley SHS at Murrumba State Secondary College.
In a blink or you might miss it moment, PBC scored just seconds into the encounter, and added a second goal in the minutes leading up to halftime.
In between Aspley SHS competed strongly, but PBC were forever dangerous.PBC placed a down payment on victory with a successful penalty shot just after halftime to make it 3-nil, then added a fourth despite a gallant performance by the Aspley goalkeeper.
PBC coach Luke Morley then watched his side go right on with the job in the second half.
In all Travis McKenzie and Eli Hughes both scored two goals, while Matt Andrews, Archie Kassarate, Harry Stoddart, Koby Wright, Alex Fleeting and Lachlan Durrington snared one apiece.
SENIOR GIRLS
Palm Beach Currumbin SHS v Aspley SHS
Kailey Lincoln scored three goals as the Palm Beach Currumbin’s senior girls made it a double day of celebrations for the school with a 5-0 win over Aspley SHS.
Battling hard against an improving Aspley SHS outfit, PBC established a 2-0 first half advantage and were never headed.
There was a close call not long into the second half when Aspley’s set shot rose near perfectly toward the right hand corner of the goal post, but the PBC keeper extended her hand to knock it away and PBC were safe again.
One highlight was a tremendous right footed effort from PBC’s Savannah Sproule who launched the ball from a distance into the bottom right hand corner.
PBC coach John Costello rallied his side at fulltime to prepare them for a quick turn around entering the team’s second clash of the day against hosts Murrumba SSC.
The PBC scorers were Lincoln (3), Sproule (1) and Molly McLennan.
SENIOR BOYS
Palm Beach Currumbin SHS v Murrumba SSC
The PBC SHS senior boys were through to the semi-finals of the QSPL after outlasting a committed Murrumba SSC this afternoon.
PBC won 4-0 in a warning to rival teams in the competition, with Eli Hughes, young Fleeting, Enzo Edge and Kody Wright scoring..
On their home track, the boys from Murrumba SSC did not lay down.
They fought every inch of the way but the sheer class of PBC was evident from start to finish.
It was a good campaign by PBC who have now blown out the COVID-19 lockdown cobwebs and can look forward ambitiously toward next month’s finals.
SENIOR GIRLS
Palm Beach Currumbin SHS v Murrumba SSC
Murrumba State Secondary College’s senior girls are through to the next round of competition after a gripping 1-all with PBC - enough to see them progress.
The Murrumba senior boys, having just finished their match, broke into rapturous applause to greet the girls back to the Murrumba dug out after the game.
Having a superior goal difference, Murrumba SSC could afford a draw but Murrumba never ever played for a draw.It was a game worthy of a grand final with barely a struck match between teams.
Home side Murrumba scored in the first half courtesy of Ali Moffat and at halftime led 1-nil.
But everyone knew PBC would comeback and sure as eggs they did, with Calannie Treloar slamming home an equalizer to set up a grandstand finish.
With the scores locked at 1-all, the defenders from both teams bunkered down for a desperate finale to the game.
Both teams created numerous half chances in this period as the class players rose to the surface to try and crack the clash open.
It was all out attack from both parties as the players played themselves to the point of exhaustion.
