Then and now: Five Titans who are on the slide

We started out with huge hopes of these Titans players – but oh, how things change.

IT wasn’t mean to be like this for the Titans.

No, with a bolstered roster and coach now in his second term, things were on the up for Gold Coast.

Or at least we’d hoped.

YOUNG TITAN LOOKS TO INGLIS

How quickly things can turn sour. Here’s what we were saying about the Titans players at the start of the season ... and what we are saying now.

PEATS VOWS TO LIFT STANDARDS

Then: An Origin prop who could be a Maroons fixture for the next five years. As a leader, could herald in a new era for the Titans.

Now: Likely to be axed?? by Queensland and may be destined for the Origin scrapheap for good. Has had his moments but not exactly ripped rival packs to shreds as we would have loved.

TWEED’S BIG POSITIVE FROM LOSS

Then: Former Origin rake who could reclaim his lofty mantle in the NRL with a strong season.

Now: Injured and usurped by Mitch Rein in No.9. While he’s back now he still is to deliver Origin-standard displays.

ASH TAYLOR

Then: While he’d had some mixed form in 2018, he finally had a forward pack to lay a strong platform. Watch out, 2019.

Now: Missed time for mental health issues but has been subjected to a rough ride from fans after some sorry performances.

TYRONE PEACHEY

Then: Yes! Finally the Titans have an x-factor who will carve up defences and bring a whole new edge to the attack.

Now: Wants to leave, maybe never wanted to even arrive, and has been dropped by the Blues amid several positional shuffles at club level.

SHANNON BOYD

Then: A giant addition who will power past defenders and lay a platform for the backline.

Now: Took 12 weeks to find fitness and has had some injury issues. Not even close to any NSW Origin selection debate.
