NSW Premier Chris Minns has fired the first shot in State of Origin 2024, taking aim at Queensland without saying one word.

Well played Mr Premier!

If State of Origin came down to a battle between the premiers, NSW’s Chris Minns would already be in a commanding position.

The annual bet between NSW and Queensland’s leaders has been locked in after Minns threw down the gauntlet on Tuesday.

“I’m throwing a big, bold open offer to the Queensland Premier that if NSW wins, when NSW wins the State of Origin, he has to wear a Blues jersey for a whole day,” Minns said in a press conference.

Asked if it would be stipulated it had to be done in parliament, Minns replied: “Sure, in parliament.”

But when questioned on what would happen if the Blues lost the series, Minns replied: “What does it matter? We’ve got this locked up.”

And Minns has doubled down on the confidence with his post before the big match.

After last year when he recreated the heavily roasted image of former premier Gladys Berejiklian standing in front of a television holding a coke, Minns let his real feelings out in 2024.

While some Blues fans liked what they saw, questions were raised over whether he’d follow what has become a tradition with the Berejiklian photo.

10 News First’s Marc Sidarous tweeted: “Nice joke and all, but im just glad we’ve put the ‘back to the camera coke thing’ to bed.”

Another commented: “Love it, but please don’t deny us a Coke can photo tonight – this is a tradition that must continue!”

Queensland premier Steven Miles accepted Minns’ terms on Wednesday in a post captioned “Maroon will look good on you, @ChrisMinnsMP.”

Miles started off his morning saying: “Good morning to everyone except Blues supporters” before revealing he’d accepted the bet.

“I’ve bet NSW Premier Chris Minns that we’re gonna win,” Miles said.

“If we win the series he’ll wear a Queensland jersey for the day. If we lose, I’ll have to wear a Blues one.

“Just another great reason for our Queensland team to fight hard and beat them.”

The bad sign for Minns is that the Maroons are heavy favourites for game one — the only game in NSW this series — and the Blues are dealing with a hefty injury toll and have blooded five debutants for the series opener.
