PROP Shannon Boyd has been granted a release from his Titans contract and will retire to the family farm in Cowra.
So what happens with that cash now?
Sure, some will head to David Fifita when he joins for $1.25 million per season from 2021.
But what about the rest?
A stack of players are coming off contract and the likes of Tevita Pangai and Moses Mbye have now been linked to the club.
Fans in Titans Facebook forums have largely been opposed to the chase of the Tigers utility, despite his standing as a Queensland Origin player.
Ben Lamb wrote: “No thanks. Not a good hooker. Halves are good. Centres are good and so is fullback.”
Dylan Caltabiano added: “If we get him on the cheap don’t see why not, can play alot of positions and adds depth and experience.”
Boyd, meanwhile, played 125 NRL games with the Titans and Canberra Raiders in a career that also included four tests for Australia in 2016.
A battle with significant injuries has limited his appearances at the Titans to just 14 games, after making his Club debut against the Raiders in Round 1, 2019.
Titans CEO Steve Mitchell thanked Boyd for his contribution to the Club.
“Shannon has been frustrated by injuries preventing him from being able to deliver his best footy at the Titans, and because of that, he asked the Club for a release from his contract to return home to country NSW,” Mitchell said.
“This was obviously a tough decision for Shannon, but one that he has made in the best interests of his family.
“We wish nothing but the best for Shannon and his young family, and we thank them for the contribution they have made to the Gold Coast Titans.”
