After making 12 appearances for Gold Coast this year, including a top-grade debut against Cronulla in Round 9, the 21-year-old utility back has reunited with former coach Anthony Seibold on a two-year deal with Brisbane.

The top pointscorer in the 2016 national under-20s competition with Melbourne, Arthars first joined forces with Seibold during their one-year stints at South Sydney in 2018.

FIVE TITANS UNDER PRESSURE IN 2020

The Kiwi flyer was also a teammate of Broncos young guns Payne Haas and David Fifita during their time at Keebra and said he hoped the move north would help him become an NRL regular next season.

“The reason I moved up here is I think there’s a great opportunity up here for me. Obviously it’s such a prestigious club … and I have a really good relationship with the head coach, Anthony Seibold, and I just feel like under him I’ll be able to develop and be the best player I can,” Arthars, who moved to the Gold Coast from Auckland at the age of 12, said.

“I first met Seibs when I was contracted to South Sydney. I spent a year under him and he was really good for my football and also off the field.

“I just felt like that pre-season I had under him, come time to play footy I was ready to go. I learnt so much under him so I’m ready to go for this year.

CLUBS ARE STILL CHOPPING AND CHANGING - HOLBROOK

“I’d love to link up with some of the boys I went to school with here. I’m familiar with Dave Fifita and big Payne and played a lot of 20s with Jake Turpin (at Melbourne).

“Keebra Park, that’s where my footy really took off. There’s a lot of boys here from Keebra and obviously throughout the NRL so I was really lucky to go to that school and come out of it with such confidence and the ability to play.

“I’m grateful I got to go there.”

In a stop-start 2019 season, Arthars was forced to bide his time with Burleigh in the Intrust Super Cup before earning a call-up to take on the Sharks in May.

He played seven-straight games in the top grade before being sent back to the ISC, eventually returning for the Titans’ last five outings of the season.

Consistency, he said, would be crucial in his new surroundings.

“I’d like to learn off the older boys here, the older heads like Matt Lodge and Darius Boyd and people like that. It’s going to be a great opportunity for me and I’m just going to soak it all up,” Arthars, who began pre-season training with Brisbane last week, said.

“There’s so many good players here (at the Broncos) and for me to be the best player I can, I’d love to work alongside some of those players because I know they will push me to best. I’m just looking forward to the opportunity and can’t wait to rip in with the boys.”
