AFTER two weeks of Rugby League Gold Coast A Grade action only one thing is certain.

Burleigh will be there or thereabouts.

Five things we learnt from schoolboy action

Every other club will be knocking on the doorstep.

Ormeau Shearers’ mission to shed their easybeats tag started poorly with a 10-try thumping at the hands of Tugun in Round One.

Seven days later, a disallowed try with moments to play was the only thing between them and a historic upset of Runaway Bay

Winger Ono So’oialo’s heel brushed against the chalk to rule out the go-ahead try and a frenzied final stanza ended in stalemate, 20-all.

“The game went down to the last second, that try would have sealed it,” coach Peri Creamer said.

“We had Ono So’oialo go over in the corner but his foot was on the line.

“At times we gave up opportunities to Runaway Bay but the resilience we showed was fantastic.

“We’re trying to get rid of the easybeats tag.

“We were in it to win and had to settle for the draw – everyone’s excited but a win is what we wanted and that’s the standard we want to set.

“The resilience was there, it was fantastic, but if we just work on our errors that will finish it for us.”

New kids on the block Mudgeeraba played out an ambush of their own to shock Tugun 22-20 on Firth Park.

Wayward goalkicking cost the Redbacks a further eight-points in a win that losing coach Clint Barends described as “dominant.”

While AJ Brimson starred for the Titans, his brother Will was equally influential for Mudgee in their first A Grade win.

The Burleigh Bears scrapped to a 22-18 win over Currumbin Eagles on enemy territory in a match that frustrated both parties.

Burleigh eked out a lead in the first half and maintained it through a stop-start second half.
