The player at the centre of the ugly coward punch on former Collingwood AFL player Jason Cloke has been slapped with a mammoth 26-game suspension.
The tribunal hit the offending player with two charges on Wednesday night, one for striking that carried a 6-week layoff and another for striking Cloke with an elbow to the head that added 20 more weeks to his suspension.
It follows a shocking incident at an AFL Masters Queensland Over 35s game where Cloke, the captain of Broadbeach, was floored by an opponent and taken to hospital.
Police are investigating the incident.
“The Tribunal met tonight regarding the Burleigh player involved in the incident that occurred Saturday 24 August 2024 during an AFL Masters Queensland Inc. Men’s Over 35’s game played between Burleigh and Broadbeach,” a statement from AFL Masters Queensland read.
“After a lengthy Tribunal hearing lasting almost four hours and hearing from 10 witnesses regarding the charges brought against the Burleigh player, the Tribunal has found the offending player guilty of the offences.
“As this matter is still under investigation by the Queensland Police Service, we are unable to make any further comments at this time.
“AFL Masters Queensland Inc. is committed to offering assistance to all players and officials involved during this time and will assist the Queensland Police Service with their investigation.”
