AFL goalkicking legend David Cloke has called for the AFL to step in and act after the latest disgraceful football act that saw son Jason hospitalised after being coward-punched in a Queensland super rules clash.

Queensland Police are investigating after the incident between the Broadbeach Cats and Burleigh Bombers.

Cloke is the co-captain and coach of the Broadbeach AFL Masters Queensland Over-35s team after a long career at Collingwood, following in the footsteps of his father David.

David said on Sunday his son would make a full recovery but he was sickened by the incident, which came only a year after son Cameron was felled in a similar incident in Melbourne.

Templestowe’s Cameron Cloke was felled behind play by Boronia captain Harry Burgess, who was given an eight-week ban after striking his opponent in the side of the head before the first bounce.

On Saturday Jason Cloke, 42, was sent to hospital with the game called off, and spent the night under observation after a CT scan.

Police are investigating after a complaint of assault was made following the alleged king hit of a former Collingwood AFL star.

Jason Cloke was allegedly struck multiple times after an alleged late tackle in a Queensland AFL Masters game between Gold Coast football clubs Broadbeach Cats and Burleigh Bombers in Mermaid Waters on Saturday afternoon.

The incident was reported to Queensland Ambulance Service by police at around 5.18pm.

Paramedics assessed a patient who police reported was “king hit while playing a match.”

The patient declined transport.

It is believed Mr Cloke was transported by friends or family to Pindara Hospital - posting photos to his Instagram story from hospital which have since been deleted at the league’s request.

A spokesperson for Queensland Police Service confirmed the matter was being investigated.

David Cloke told the Herald Sun on Sunday he was furious with the continued violence taking place in community football after his son was elbowed in the head.

“Nothing was done last time when it happened to Cameron. The league did nothing about it. The player is back playing this year. It’s weak as piss. The AFL are weak as piss. These people should be banned, never to play again. But the AFL don’t do anything about it.

“Why do you reckon most AFL footballers once they are retired don’t want to play footy? He was playing Super Rules, not the local competition. Fair dinkum,” he said.

“The AFL have the power to make decisions over it. They had the power to make sure the Eastern Football League did things properly. But nothing was done about it. The AFL didn’t say a word. I have a granddaughter who is nine playing footy. I don’t want her to play any more. This is absolute bull----. Complete bull----.

“Twenty and thirty years ago when we played stuff happened (on field) and in the end we were embarrassed about it, but this shouldn’t happen today. These people should never be able to put a pair of boots on again. “Now the police have to do something. They have to have the balls to do something but will they?”

Cameron formally retired from football after his incident, although he has returned to have a kick with mates in a handful of games this year.

David Cloke, who played 333 games with Richmond and Collingwood, said he was even suspended from attending games by the Eastern Football League for his comments on the case.

Cameron Cloke was initially suspended for two weeks for his part in the incident, but was subsequently cleared of any wrongdoing.

“They reported Cameron and said he had struck him first but it was thrown out at the tribunal,” David Cloke said.

“And now this guy is back playing again this year. In that situation there were two blokes involved who had never played in the backline before and they went down there and at the first bounce it happened. Tell me that’s not premeditated.”

AFL Masters Queensland president Sam French told Fox Footy on Sunday the league was awaiting an umpires report before it considered its next steps.

“Under our guidelines we’re awaiting the umpire report and once received we’ll then determine whether we refer it straight to the tribunal or the match review panel,” French said.
