LAURA Taylor’s brilliant month in the water has led to her being crowned the Gold Coast Bulletin’s Local Sports Star for 2018.
Taylor won silver in the 200m butterfly at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games at the start of April, an effort that kickstarted an incredible month in which she also snared gold at the Aussies Surf Life Saving Championships in Perth and the Australian age swimming titles in Sydney.
The 19-year-old, who produced one of the Cinderella stories of the Commonwealth Games trials earlier this year when she beat Olympic medallist Emma McKeon in the 200m butterfly to claim a spot at a home Games, was crowned Local Sports Star at a gala dinner at Southport Sharks on Wednesday night.
