Zahara Temara and her little sister Chante excel in Burleigh Bears win over Toowoomba

THREE-time defending premiers Burleigh returned to their destructive best on Saturday, steamrolling Toowoomba 60-0 as sisters Zahara and Chante Temara combined ominously.

Three-time defending premiers Burleigh returned to their destructive best on Saturday, steamrolling Toowoomba 60-0 as sisters Zahara and Chante Temara combined ominously.

Chante, who only turned 17 last week, impressed coach Tahnee Norris on her SEQ Women’s Division One debut.

“She was great. She got in there and made some really good tackles in the ruck area,” Norris said.

“For a small girl she is not scared of contact which is good. I think doing defensive work against her sister has really helped her.

“She is going to be a quality player.”

Chante’s debut was capped by a special moment where she scored a try after her big sister had made a break and kicked for her.

“It was like they were playing in the backyard, it was great. It was really good to watch,” Norris said.

Prior to the Round 9 fixture, Burleigh had four wins, three losses and a draw last weekend but Norris hailed the ruthless display against Toowoomba as their best yet.

“We finally put it all together on one day,” Norris said. “It was nice to do a full 70 minutes of quality football.

“If you don’t win for a couple of games, you get a bit down about it so it was just about turning that around and having that confidence again in each other and being able to back it up in the next round game and I think we are ready to do that.”

Next up for the Bears is West Brisbane on June 9 after a representative round bye this weekend.
