When TSS first V Basketball captain Jack Brinsmead saw teammate Connor Watt rupture his ACL in the third quarter of their opening GPS game, he couldn’t help but be reminded of his own injury trauma.
In what was his first game in the First V side, the 17-year-old ruptured his achilles and spent eight months on the sidelines recovering.
“It was tough because I’d trained all year and then it went in the first five minutes of our first game,” he said.
“It was devastating but I knew I had another year left so I worked really hard to get back this year and get back to my best form.”

A year on, Brinsmead gets the chance to lead the side he worked so hard to return to.
“I’ve been here since prep school so to look at all the leaders and now to be one is something I’m really looking forward to,” he said.
Today, TSS take on Anglican Church Grammar School (1pm, Brisbane) after losing game one to Nudgee last week.
“For the past five years, they’ve been a basketball powerhouses,” Brinsmead said.
“They have a few state players so we’ll try stop them from shooting because we didn’t stop Nudgee last week.”
