NO David Fifita, no worries.

Titans fans have taken a somewhat surprisingly optimistic view of the doomed chase of Broncos gun Fifita.

Gold Coast, who were tipped to be in the market for the Keebra Park product, now appear likely to miss out … not that some fans seemed too bothered.

“Meh … surely we can find other back rowers,” Joel Zunker wrote online.

Adam Fuller added: “There are better forwards than him but he is a good player.”

However others were not so sure.

“He’s a beast of a player, definitely not overrated,” Josh Stewart said.

BEN King’s self-isolation might be best spent with carbs, and plenty of ‘em.

The 19-year-old Suns forward has taken a glass half-full approach to the coronavirus, topping up his plate in a bid to add to his 87kg frame.

“I think it’s definitely an opportunity to gain some weight,” 202cm King told the Suns website.

“I’ve still got a long way to go with my body and putting on size and strength.

“This is definitely one of the small positives to come out of this for me is that I get a chance to get in the weight room and try to progress my development before the season starts again.”

ONE-time Chargers CEO Paul Broughton still clearly holds a flame for his old team.

The 88-year-old was in 1997 in charge of the Gold Coast’s ARL franchise, one which became collateral damage following the end of the Super League war.

Chargers players and officials were left out of work after the league opted to close the club despite having a healthy bank balance.

“I still reflect on the emotions of the players I paid out on behalf of ARL simply because they were not the “best”,” Broughton tweeted.

“Those who benefited, as it was their concept, can tell those 250+ who lost jobs (12 ARL & 10 SL team that went to 14 teams) that “it was all for the best”.”

MOTORSPORT

The launch of the Supercars Eseries is great for both drivers and motorsport fans, but one stakeholder could be losing out.

The partners of drivers are already feeling the effects of the series being brought straight into their own homes.

Riana Crehan, a Supercars commentator and the partner of Will Davison, revealed in a Tweed that the playing environment was a bit chilly at their Gold Coast home.

“All I know is I now walk around the house dressed like I’m going to the snow as the aircon is set to below freezing because apparently it gets ‘too hot’ playing the sim,” Crehan said.

“Also, Will talks to people which are not in this house more then me. This is my new life.”

FOOTBALL

THE perks of being an international footballer are pretty obvious.

“To be in your 20s and have travelled to over 30 or 40 countries, and to be able to photograph that and capture it and remember it, is really unique and special,” said 29-year-old Matilda Elise Kellond-Knight, a Gold Coast junior.

The comments were part of the midfielder’s spiel to one of her sponsors, Ted’s Camera Store.

THERE are plenty of innovative ideas floating around at this time and this may just be the most out there.

One website decided to nominate which NRL club is which character from The Simpsons.

The Titans, you ask?

The Simpsons’ family cat, Snowball V, is not the first cat the family owned and won’t be the last,” author Jack Blyth wrote on Zero Tackle.

“Snowball IV was called the Crushers, and when Snowball V dies sooner or later, there’ll be a Snowball VI.

“If they’re smart, they might move this kitty to Brisbane. Plus, people often forget about the poor cat due to sheer irrelevance …”

For the record, the Raiders were deemed Bart Simpson – “there’s always something naughty hiding around the corner”.

HOCKEY

MANY are using self-isolation as a chance to try out a new look, including Kookaburra Corey Weyer.

The Labrador Hockey product has raised over $2000 (and counting) shaving off his iconic golden locks for he Leukemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave.

Looking good wiz.

HORSE RACING

As far as comebacks go, this is a superb one.

Fighting Heart is accepted to race in Thursday’s Benchmark 72 Handicap (1800m) at Gold Coast, nearly seven years after his last start.

The 12-year-old last raced in Sha Tin, Hong Kong, on June 16, 2013, and only reappeared for one trial at Doomben midway through 2018.

SURF LIFESAVING

WE’VE already seen some athletes around the world getting pretty creative with their isolation training but Northcliffe’s Olivia Corrin takes the cake.

Back home in New Zealand after the surf lifesaving season was cut short, Corrin was spotted making waves in her home pool.

Affixing a rope to her board and anchoring it on the pool’s perimeter, Corrin can keep training to her hearts content, albeit in much cooler conditions.

FOOTBALL

WHILE football is still on hold for another few weeks, some Gold Coast gamers won’t have to search far for their sporting fix.

Football Queensland has set up a new E-League which will see players go head to head from the comfort of their homes in the search of Queensland’s best gaming region.

More than 780 people have signed up for the competition which will progress via knockout until a champion is crowned.

A quick glance over the hundreds of teams concluded that Burleigh Heads, the Gold Coast Knights, Runaway Bay, Tweed United, Surfers Paradise, Mudgeeraba, Gold Coast United, Southport, Pacific Pines, Robina, Coomera and Palm Beach plus more will all be represented.

AUSSIE RULES

WE’RE going to go out on a limb here and say that Aussie rules footy isn’t the most popular sport in Ireland.

So when Suns Irish recruit Luke Towey returned home last week after the AFL season was put on hold, he had to get creative to practice his kicking.

With no goalposts to practice goal kicking with, Towey was seen taking shots at an old castle which kind of, maybe, didn’t really act as the perfect substitute.

Claps for ingenuity though.
