THE chance to represent the Currumbin Vikings during their 100th year has lured retired sprinter Tim Delahunty ‘out of the woodwork.’
The speed machine and former Aussies gold medallist will line up for the first time in four years at the P3 Queensland Beach Sprint series to try and chase more success for the Vikings.
“It’s Currumbin’s 100 years so the call went out to retired athletes and I came out of the wood work to take part in the beach series this year,” he said.
“There are a lot from the club that have started training again and we’re really excited to represent the green and white cap again.”
While it’s his speed that had drawn most acclaim, Delahunty’s hair and handlebar moustache have made a similar name for themselves.
“I had a really big beard for a while and I love racing in some sort of silly haircut or beard,” he said.
“It seems to chill my nerves a bit when I’m racing.”
And like Samson, the hair is the source of Delahunty’s powers.
“I can’t cut it off because it’s bad luck,” he said.
The series kicks off today at Kurrawa SLSC.
