The Surfers Paradise Demonettes have taken out the QFAW Division Two decider by 40 points

SOME are pushing their 40s while some have only just turned 18 but Surfers Paradise’s family culture defied all odds as the Demonettes took out the QFAW division two south premiership by 40 points against Mt Gravatt on Sunday.

With only one point separating the rivals at half time, the crowd at Leyshon Park maintained a slight fear that the only team to beat the Demonettes during the season was about to cause another boil over though a blistering second half, including a four goal third term, put the result beyond doubt.

“The half time message was for them to keep doing what they’ve been doing all year, believe in themselves, play to their structures, play how they train and to #justwin,” said coach Glenn Pierce

“The 22 of them have done it for each other.

“We (the coaches) only hopped on the bus.

“The 38 that played during the whole season, the 22 that went out there today, they did it for each other and they wanted it more than the other side.”

Despite only boasting a one point lead at half time, Pierce said that he knew the Demonettes had the game plan to out run the soaring Vultures in Sunday’s searing heat.

“I wouldn’t say we were confident but we knew that if we played our game style that we could out run and out play them.

“We’ve got some pretty experienced girls in the team who were able to help the young ones who are in their first year and haven’t played football before.”

Dashing defender Alana Mcnabb was named best on ground after a powerful rebounding display in the back half, even scoring a goal late to grow the margin.

“We’ve got a lot of girls playing their first year of football and we’ve gone through the season being beaten only once,” said Pierce.

“Hopefully the whole lot of them continue on, but a couple will retire.

“Their children come to training and train with us because we’re a family club.

“We can’t be more proud of those girls and what they did.”
