Seeking to better their runner-up finish of 2018, TSS made it four wins from as many starts with a 65-3 demolition of Toowoomba Grammar School on Saturday.

The visitors led 34-3 at halftime before completing the rout after the break, with JoJo Fifita, Dion Samuela, Hamish Roberts (two each), Ngiyaani Waters, Zane Nonggorr, Hudson Meyer and Carson Path all finding the line.

While the result adds to victories over defending champions Nudgee College (21-20), Churchie (64-7) and Brisbane State High (52-7), Wallace said it was the manner of the triumphs – not the end score – that was most pleasing.

“I think staying committed to the things that we’ve trained,” Wallace said when asked what had impressed him most this season.

“The boys are not getting ahead of themselves, they’re understanding what the threats of the opposition are. As a coach, we’ve handed over the game plan to the boys so they’ve taken that and are working with it.

“As a group I thought we played particularly well (on Saturday). There was probably a 45km/hr wind in the first half that we had to contend with.

“Our captain, Zane Nonggorr, led from the front, (lock) Marlon James was strong again and Syris Schmidt really controlled our performance in the first half.”

Premiers in 2017, TSS will look to continue their march to this year’s title when they host Brisbane Grammar School on Saturday.
