WHEN the North Gold Coast Seahawks men step out onto the court for their SBL men’s division two grand final tonight, they’ll have a mate in mind.
Minutes into their semi-final warm up last week as the team prepared to take on the Ipswich Force, starting point guard Josh Smith landed awkwardly and tore his ACL, ruling him out of the final and the game for the next 12 months as he recovers.
The Seahawks couldn’t spend long mourning with a spot in the Grand Final awaiting the win of the do or die clash tough coach Justin Andrews believes the injury definitely shook his team early before they muscled their way to a 17 point win.
“It took us a while to get going after that,” he said.
“We weren’t at our sharpest in the first quarter.”
SEAHAWK SET TO SOAR INTO THE NBL
The Seahawks championship quest will be further complicated by the absence of Wilson Page who has returned to the United States early but Andrews is certain he has the side to get it done after only losing two games all season.

“I’ve lost two members of my starting five but I’m confident that we have a really deep bench,” he said.
The Seahawks will face the Redlands Pride tonight at 7pm (Carrara Indoor Stadium), a team they beat but were also beaten by in the regular season.
“Confident is the word I’d use,” said Andrews.
“They probably have a game plan for us but we will have one for them because we know what works.”
