After spending the first part of 2019 playing college basketball in the United States for Newman and then returning to average 15 points and four rebounds during the QBL season, the 19-year-old will now follow in his father Frank and uncle Neil’s footsteps when he suits up for the Bullets next year.

“It’s always been a dream of mine growing up as a kid and watching the Bullets,” Goldfinch told Brisbane Bullets media.

“I’m excited to finally be living it and playing in the best league in the country.”

The Benowa High School graduate spent his formative years at the Seahawks, earning selection in multiple regional teams after starting at the club at age eight.

“We’re over the moon to have him take the next step,” said Seahawks development manager Greg Fox.

“He’s going to set an example for our kids coming through our programs but it highlights our program in that he’s gone from playing QBL to the national league.”

After playing NBL basketball himself, Fox said he had an inkling Goldfinch could follow in Jack McVeigh’s footsteps and become the second Seahawk to crack the national league.

“He’s got a strong basketball pedigree so for him it’s been about continuing to mature and grow,” he said.

“He’s very talented at his size.

“He puts defenders under pressure and his skill set is exactly what NBL and professional teams look for these days.”
