TSS BASKETBALL STAR’S AMERICAN DREAM
Overview of TSS’s season with director of basketball, Brendan Le Gassick
Ladder position: Fifth
Results: Eight wins, four losses
Grade: B+
The highlight
“Probably our game last weekend which was our last game of the season. Knocking off Ipswich Grammar School, who were in the hunt for a joint GPS title was a great result. The fact we took care of them shows the mindset shift of the boys from the start of the season. Seeing them grow and develop throughout the year has been great to watch.”
The lowlight
“Getting off to an 0-3 start wasn’t ideal. It put us on the backfoot and behind in our goal to finish in the top three at the end of the year. The positive is that the boys turned it around and managed to go 4-1 in the last five games.”
The star
“It wasn’t an easy decision for Anthony Petrie to make (awarding the MVP at the end of the year). Maika Shortland, Lloyd McVeigh and Preston Le Gassick were all stand outs. It was a touch decision to pick Preston. He’s got a good IQ as a point guard. He’s go a good skill set and handles the ball really well. He makes good decisions and the growth he’s had from last year to this year has been good. I’m proud of him but there’s always more to work on.”
The backbone
“Our captain Jack Brinsmead was our glue guy this year. He does the little hard things. A big part of the year has been relationships and he’s really brought the guys together. He rebounds well and leads front he front.”

“Lloyd McVeigh is definitely one to keep your eyes on. He was sick and ill with a range of problems for five of our eight games so we only saw a snippet of him and his talent towards the end and he put up some really big stats for us. He’s in the Australian Under 17 squad and finds out if he makes the team soon as well.”
