Coming to the crease at 4-92 amid a collapse of 5-31, Wheeler smashed an unbeaten 95 from just 90 balls - highlighted by 14 boundaries - to steer the Dolphins to 7-238 against University of Queensland at Bill Pippen Oval.

The visitors, who had won five of their eight Twenty20 games to start the season, were then kept to 8-138 in reply as Amy Riddell (2-23) and Grace Parsons (2-26) did the damage with the ball.

Wheeler’s previous best first-grade score was 85 last season and she received valuable support in today’s knock from Melissa Lewis (25) in a 91-run seventh-wicket stand.

Riddell (37) and Chelsea Gan (20) got the Dolphins off to a promising start with a 65-run opening partnership before they, together with Rebecca van Helvoirt (5), captain Belinda McDougall (2) and Carly Fuller (16), fell in quick succession.

UQ never got going with the bat as Fuller, Roxanne Thomson (both 1-20) and McDougall (1-24) also chipped in with key wickets.

The Dolphins, who split their eight T20 fixtures, play their second one-dayer away to Wynnum Manly/Redlands on November 3.
