Suspended: APS sporting calendar suspended to prevent spread of coronavirus COVID-19

Ashmore’s Trinity Lutheran College notified parents and students that APS-related activities, training, games and events had been suspended with immediate effect.

The Gold Coast Associated Private Schools competition will shut down all inter-school sport until the end of term to protect against the spread of coronavirus Covid-19.

Ashmore’s Trinity Lutheran College notified parents and students that APS-related activities, training, games and events have been suspended with immediate effect.

Soccer, tennis, hockey, volleyball, netball and rugby union fixtures have been affected by the suspension.

Trinity Lutheran Principal Dr Tsae Wong said suspending the sporting calendar was a result of the need for social distancing to flatten the infection curve.

“We have evaluated our upcoming gatherings against the criteria of: (a) in excess of 500 people, (b), held indoors and (c) reduced social distancing indoors,” Dr Wong said.

“We have decided to cancel or postpone the following upcoming events for the rest of the term.

“All APS related activities, training, fixture games and possibly cross country, are suspended with immediate effect.

“All campus assemblies and chapels will be suspended until further notice.

“Other smaller and year level specific events are under evaluation to ensure that thorough and extensive research is undertaken prior to any announcement to the groups affected.”

Further suspension of events into Term 2 are possible.

Families with vulnerable family members, who have the capacity to supervise their children at home, have been urged to consider keeping their children at home.

No cases of Covid-19 have been detected at Trinity Lutheran College.
