Desperate to improve on their runners-up finish for the Gold Coast Premier League championship, Apollo ended the season in much the same way it had been spent – in pursuit of the Bulldogs.

While adamant the three-goal deficit was not a true reflection of the game, Morrison conceded the 2019 campaign had left him feeling empty.

“It’s a disappointment to me because I want to win things,” Morrison, who steered Surfers to last year’s preliminary final, said.

“Obviously you look back and we made the Round of 64 in the FFA Cup, losing to Olympic 2-1, and got beaten in the grand final. So we had achievements, we just didn’t achieve what I wanted.

“We’ve just got to come back bigger, stronger, better. Hopefully we’ll be resilient and come back better.”

The late send-off of Matt Harris following a mid-pitch scuffle added insult to injury on a night where little went right for Surfers, but Morrison said it was not all doom and gloom.

“As far as clear-cut chances, I thought in the first half we had the better chances. Then they got the goal and that’s the only chance I really remember them having in the first half,” he said.

“We had a couple of chances on the line (in the second half) but couldn’t get one and fair play to Burleigh, they done well.

“At the end of the day, they won the league, they got the result (tonight) and there’s nothing much you can really say. Fair play to them.”
