THEIR finals hopes are all but over but Southport coach Trent Gregson has challenged his players not to take their foot off the pedal in the final two rounds of the Brisbane Women’s Premier League.
While they are still a mathematical chance of finishing inside the top four – they are five points adrift of fourth-placed Annerley – the Warriors know they need a miracle as they head into tomorrow’s 5pm battle at home to high-flying Peninsula Power.
A topsy-turvy season took another turn last weekend when seventh-placed Southport ended their three-game losing streak with a 7-0 thrashing of North Brisbane on the road.
Despite the reality their season was almost over, Gregson said there would be no excuses for the Warriors if they didn’t deliver the goods against the Power.
“The ladies played really well (against North Brisbane). We will be looking to string a few more wins together and finish the season strong after some sub-par performances in the past couple of weeks,” Gregson said.
Elsewhere, fifth-placed Coomera can keep their finals fate in their own hands when they travel to Robina City (eighth) at 4pm tomorrow.
RUN TAKING GLOSS OFF UNITED SEASON
The Colts sit level with Annerley on both points and for-and-against, but have a game in hand.
Coming off a 2-1 loss to ladder-leading University of Queensland, Broadbeach United (ninth) host Ipswich City at 3pm on Sunday.
