A DUO of talented imports are preparing to launch Robina City FC to new heights in 2020.
Fresh off finishing 7th in the 2019 Brisbane Women’s Premier League season, the Rabbits have been on the hunt and believe they now have the talent to deliver in their second BWPL season.
THE PRE-SEASON SIGN BROADBEACH COULD BE BWPL BOLTERS
Returning Japanese playmaker Ena Tsuzumi will be joined in the forward half by Robina import Wako Suzuki who is set to play her first season on Australian soil.
Also joining the Rabbit warren is South Australian fullback Lily Bills who has played NPLW with Adelaide University SC as well as representing the state.
Along with returning guns Mia Pinchin and Serena Davidson, Robina coach Ian Shaw believes his side can go to another level in 2020.
“Wako is a great striker who can play across multiple positions,” he said.
“It’s a long story but I have some contacts over there from when I was in Tasmania and I was lucky enough to get in contact with her (Suzuki) and she’s enjoying the lifestyle here and can’t wait to get started.
“We’re an attacking team, there’s no doubt about that and we’re trying to establish a solid defence as well but we’re here to win games.”
NEW COOMERA COACH FEELING THE HEAT TO REPEAT BWPL SUCCESS
Unfortunately for Robina, rain ruined a chunk of their pre-season, meaning the Rabbits have only had two practice matches to prepare for their second year in the BWPL.
Robina played The Lakes a few weeks ago before losing 5-0 in their Elaine Watson cup bout against Virginia United last week.
EXODUS: FOOTBALL SHOCK AS ‘DEVASTATED’ COAST CLUB WITHDRAWS
“We tried to rotate a lot of girls and give a lot of our players a run so the result didn’t go our way but we used the game as a chance to play some competitive football,” Shaw said.
“We’ve played a few intra-clubs as well but you never get the best out of them so you use them for fitness but they’re playing the way we want them to play.
“For us, we want to play a good style of football and we finished 7th last year but I’d like to think we can do better than that.
“The Gold Coast teams all look like they’re going to be competitive.”
Robina kick off their BWPL campaign away against Ipswich City on Sunday at 5pm.
