HE’S the lucky charm making winning look easy at Ormeau.
The Shearers had gone 980 days between Rugby League Gold Coast A-grade victories before defeating Bilambil 31-22 last Sunday.
That match coincided with Parahi Wilson’s Ormeau debut.
The 24-year-old back-rower scored a try to help his side end their wretched run.
Wilson is a former Titans under-20 captain and spent time in Burleigh’s Intrust Super Cup squad; he took the 2018 season off to give his body a rest but was lured back to the sport this year by ex-Bears teammates Anthony Gray and Jesse Malcolm, who are both Shearers these days.
Wilson missed Ormeau’s opening two games after injuring his ankle in the pre-season, forcing him to watch on as his team lost 40-4 to Runaway Bay and 42-24 to Currumbin.
“The first game Runaway Bay outclassed us, from what I could see on the sidelines, but the second game we didn’t start off on the right foot and it was a bit too hard to get back,” he said.
“The third game we picked up the errors where we could improve so it all just built up to that game and I just so happened to be playing, which was lucky enough.
“Everyone was stoked. John (Coulter, president) and Jules (Kuresa, coach) were over the moon, it was their first win in a long time. Everyone was happy just to get the win for them really.”
Wilson knows it’s important they prove the win was no fluke when they host Southport on Sunday.
“We definitely have the team, across the park we have a lot of guys who have played a lot of good footy but it’s just a bit hard when the team is all new to gel together,” he said.
“We knew it would take a couple of weeks so it’s only going to get better from here.”
