Murwillumbah say no decisions have been made about their Gold Coast Premier League future

MURWILLUMBAH president Darren McKay has opened up about the club’s Premier League future amid rumours they could withdraw from the top flight next season.

MURWILLUMBAH president Darren McKay insists no decisions have been made on the club’s Premier League future amid rumours they could withdraw from Football Gold Coast’s top flight next season.

The Warning narrowly avoided a relegation playoff after finishing eighth in this year’s Premier League, sparking speculation they may step away from the competition and the significant financial burden that comes with it.

However, McKay denied any discussions had taken place about their involvement next season, saying the club’s standard end-of-season review would be held shortly before the annual general meeting late this month.

“At this stage it’s business as usual for the seniors and Premier League. We’re just getting through this end-of-season process and once we do that we can look at next season,” McKay said.

GIRLS MAKE HISTORY FOR UNITED

“As part of our annual general meeting process, the board come together to have a discussion on the year that’s been and the year ahead. The seniors and the Premier League are one of the things we discuss from a club perspective and that occurs every year.

“Once the grand finals have passed, you’re heading into AGM time and everything we do for that. Obviously third-last (in the Premier League) is not where you want to be at the end of the season.

“You look at the top four teams, it’s consistency that gets them where they are. We proved with beating Broadbeach and drawing with Burleigh that we were capable of being competitive, it was that consistency that let us down.”

REES EYES RAID ON PREMIER LEAGUE CLUB

While the future of coach Levi Hilton remains in the air as he contemplates an on-field return, McKay said changes to the playing roster were also inevitable should the club remain in the Premier League.

“Just as you have players that stick around at clubs, you have players come and go,” he said. “I anticipate to be competitive we will definitely need to bring in more players. You’re always looking to do that.”
