HOCKEY young gun Kyra Livermore has taken one step closer to following in her father, Olympian Brent’s footsteps after she was named in the Australian team at the conclusion of the school sport nationals in Newcastle last week.
The 15-year-old earnt her first green and gold uniform after a strong showing throughout the tournament, with the Australian honour marking an eerie resemblance to her dad’s early career.
“That’s actually where my dad made his first Australian team at the U16 schoolboy’s nationals in Newcastle as well,” he said.
“It’s pretty cool.”
After defeating New South Wales to claim the gold medal earlier this year at the Under 18 national championships, NSW had the last laugh at the U16 school nationals to defeat Queensland 2-1 in the final.
“It was a hard fought match,” Livermore said.
“We scored first and got the jump on them but then it came down to the last minute.”

Despite playing eight games across the six day tournament, Livermore couldn’t spend the weekend away from hockey and suited up for Labrador in their 6-0 win over Mudgeeraba in the Gold Coast division one league.
“I was very sore and didn’t do much,” she joked.
