JAMAL Fogarty has completed a remarkable individual season by being named the Burleigh Bears’ Player of the Year.
The Petero Civoniceva Medal winner as Intrust Super Cup Player of the Year, the 25-year-old halfback was the red-hot favourite at the Bears’ presentation dinner on Friday and held off a late charge from Jeff Lynch to take out the club’s top award.
It was a banner year for Fogarty, who steered the Bears to their second ISC premiership in four years, scored the winning try in the grand final and starred in the NRL State Championship loss to Newtown on NRL grand final day.
BEARS BOSS DISCUSSES LENIHAN EXIT & POSSIBLE REPLACEMENTS
The Beaudesert junior was quick to heap praise on his teammates during his acceptance speech and announced that he had re-signed with the Bears earlier in the week.
The presentation dinner was held in front of a packed Burleigh Bears Leagues Club crowd, who celebrated a hugely-successful year.
Four of the club’s seven senior teams contested grand finals, with premierships coming in the ISC and A grade competitions.
It was also a chance for the club to farewell Jim Lenihan following his appointment as an assistant coach at the Gold Coast Titans.
Lenihan is the longest-serving ISC coach in club history.
