Gold Coast United sign GC Knights defender Oskar Dillon for 2019 NPL campaign

GOLD Coast United have continued their raid on the Premier League playing ranks, signing one of the competition’s brightest stars to join new recruits Michael Thwaite and Justyn McKay.

GOLD Coast United have signed gun Gold Coast Knights defender Oskar Dillon as new coach Kristian Rees lays the foundations for a 2019 NPL assault.

In a massive blow to the Knights ahead of their debut NPL campaign in 2019, Dillon has joined United to work under Rees and alongside fellow recruit Michael Thwaite, both former A-League defenders.

The 19-year-old is the third major signing for the club, following Thwaite and experienced Knights midfielder Justyn McKay to Robina.

Originally from Coffs Harbour, Dillon moved north with his family in 2013 and immediately found a home in Palm Beach Currumbin State High School’s Football Excellence Program.

After two seasons in the NPL with Palm Beach, his performances caught the eye of Brisbane Roar Youth coaches, who brought him into their under-19 NPL squad for 2015.

He returned to the Coast at the end of the 2016 season, linking up with then-assistant coach Rees at Gold Coast City and making his senior NPL debut as a 17-year-old.

A regular starter with City in 2017, Dillon then followed Rees to the Knights this year and played an integral role in their run to the Premier League’s premiership-championship double.

He was also named in the Premier League Team of the Year last month.

United’s focus will now turn to bolstering their attacking options.
