Chasing their first win of the campaign after losses to Sunshine Coast (55-22) and Darling Downs (34-10), the Cyclones fell 39-33 after trailing 22-19 at halftime.

“We were better than last week,” coach Kris Burton said.

The Gold Coast Cyclones do battle with Far North Queensland in Round 3 of the Queensland Country Championships at Ballymore on Saturday.

“We played well for 30 minutes but then eased off and they came back and started well in the second half. We came back at the end but it was too late. (Lock) Darcy Hilton was one of the best for us.”

The Cyclones play their final game away to Townsville on Saturday.
