THE arrival of flanker Dylan Rowe could not have come at a better time for Bond University as they ready themselves for a mission to topple the leading Queensland Premier Rugby outfit.
The Bull Sharks have resurrected their season with back-to-back wins over Norths and Sunnybank but will have to knock off first placed Brothers at Robina on Saturday to keep that streak going.
Rowe, a former Souths player who spent 2018 in Sydney’s Shute Shield competition, joined the club about a month ago and started at No.6 in their last start 28-26 victory.
His presence bolsters a pack that has been hit by recent injuries to Zach Moimoi and Calum Ball.
“He has actually been capped for Croatia in tier-two internationals. He has just settled on the Gold Coast and come down to play some footy,” Bond coach Grant Anderson said of Rowe.
“He had a couple of games in our second grade and has worked his way into premier grade.
“We’re really grateful that we have got some depth in our back-row and Dylan’s timing has been perfect with the spate of injuries that we have had in second-row and back-row players and the unavailability of Angus Blyth as well.”
Anderson confirmed flyhalf Mitch Third will return from injury via second grade this week, with Justin Bernstein retaining the No.10 premier grade jersey.
Winger Gus Qasevakatini will miss the Brothers clash but is a chance of being back for the following weekend against University of Queensland.
Bond lost their season-opener to Brothers 26-20 on the road.
