Bond University Bull Sharks win ‘ugly’ against Sunnybank Dragons

Bond University are hopeful of getting Mitch Third back for their upcoming clash with powerhouse Brothers as they chase three straight Queensland Premier Rugby wins.

BOND University are hopeful of getting Mitch Third back for their upcoming clash with powerhouse Brothers as they chase three straight Queensland Premier Rugby wins.

The Bull Sharks did just enough to finally find themselves on the right side of a tight scoreline on Saturday, pipping Sunnybank 28-26 for their first away victory in 2019.

“It was probably not a good win but an ugly win – but we’ll take it,” captain Harry Nucifora said.

MAJOR UPSET IN GOLD COAST RUGBY

“It’s definitely good having confidence of two wins and we have got the faith and the trust that it is doable even with all the injuries we have got at the moment.”

All of a sudden, Bond are two points outside of the top four, although their squad has been decimated by hamstring troubles of late.

Zach Moimoi went down at training in the lead-up to last weekend’s win over Norths, during which Calum Ball suffered a serious tear.

Fijian flyer Gus Qasevakatini became the latest casualty, suffering hamstring damage after scoring two tries against a Sunnybank outfit that included ex-Bond players Hayden Sargeant, Joel Brown and Tipene Mavoa.

Reserve winger Adam Gauder is not likely to be available for the Brothers match either after being red carded on Saturday.

Third and centre Frankie Calugay are expected to be fit after long-term injury lay-offs in positive news for the club, however.
