Just weeks after both took out their respective divisions at the Dragon Run ski race in Hong Kong, the two backed it up in Perth after a long week of racing to win the Shaw and Partners Doctor ski race, taking out $10,000 in the process.
Just a week after finishing fifth in round two of the Nutri-Grain series, McKenzie claimed her first Doctor win in a time of 1:47:16 ahead of training partner Georgia Laird and fellow series athlete Jordan Mercer.
“That last five kilometres, I was just chasing my watch trying to get as fast a time as I could,” the 25-year-old said.
“When you can’t see anyone, you spend a bit of time looking at your watch and the kilometres ticking over.
“I still have a goal of trying to do three minutes 30 for a kilometre and I got pretty close.”
Racing 27km from Rottnest Island to Sorrento Beach in Perth, Hill made it three straight Doctor wins and four in total, crossing the line in a time of 1:35:18 ahead of Nicholas Notten and Sean Rice.
“It was quite hard to do your own thing and peel off to the right but once I did that and got comfortable, it was quite cool to pull in front a bit,” he said.
