IN the latest edition of the Bulletin’s Round Ball Round Up podcast, Broadbeach coach Lee Vernon talks beating the Knights, the club’s unbelievable finals record and dealing with critics of the Dolphins’ playing style.
Broadbeach came under fire from Knights coach Grae Piddick following their 2-1 win in the major semi final on September 1, with the latter saying there were “no surprises at how they generally play”.
“They’re extremely physical, they play their game style well and they’re really prepared to knuckle in. When you get away with it you’ll keep doing it so good luck to them,” Piddick said.
However, as the sides prepare to meet again in Saturday night’s grand final at Carrara, Vernon said he’d had enough.
“Last time I looked we were in the results business, nine grand finals in 10 years (so) we must be doing something right,” Vernon said.
“It does annoy me, week after week when you get a coach up (to talk) and he complains about not getting the result and the style that we play. That’s the idea of football, to confuse your opponents, to put a style of play in front of them that they can’t deal with.”
