Bond University have lost the QAFLW Grand final by 76 points again Coorparoo

If there was one single moment which perfectly summed up Bond University’s dirty day against Coorparoo in the QAFLW Grand Final on Sunday, it was before the first siren had even sounded and the Bull Sharks ran onto the field and into position without realising they were one player short.

IF there was one single moment which perfectly summed up Bond University’s dirty day against Coorparoo in the QAFLW Grand Final on Sunday, it was before the first siren had even sounded and the Bull Sharks ran onto the field and into position without realising they were one player short.

The Bull Sharks were disorganised from the start and unfortunately their day would only get worse.

In one of the most dominant 15 minutes of QAFLW football in recent memory, Coorparoo had opened up a 39 point lead by quarter time before Bond had even the chance to trouble the scorers.

Having lost the previous two QAFLW deciders, the King’s wasted no time ensuring that a third heartbreak wasn’t on the cards, scoring three goals in the opening two minutes of the game.

The Bull Sharks struggled to generate any effective forward forays and when they did manage to move it past the centre circle, King’s defenders Jessica Wuetschner and Charlotte Edmunds mopped up and rebounded

What was a 39 point lead at quarter time became 51 at the main break, 53 at three quarter time before the minor premiers eventually succumbed 18-94 to a ruthless King’s outfit.

WHY SUNS FANS SHOULD BELIEVE: WITTS

“It wasn’t out day today,” said Bond University coach Shane Atkins after the game.

“I’m sure we learnt some lessons.

“We played a very good side and a very experienced side today.”

With only one point on the board at the main break, it was captain Molly Ritson who finally broke the Bull Sharks drought 11 minutes into the third quarter but the damage had been done and despite their most optimistic beliefs, there was no way Bond could have climbed the unassailable mountain they set themselves after a poor opening stanza.

“The quarter time message was just to go back to our original plan because maybe we got too ahead of ourselves and had too much of a game plan going in,” said speedy midfielder Ally Evans.

“We just went back to what we do best and it seemed to help in the second quarter.”

Despite letting the King’s reign early, Evans said the Bull Sharks still believed they could pull off the impossible.

“After the first quarter, it’s only one quarter and if they could score six then we could to,” she said.

“That was the message as well at quarter time and half time that we could still come back and not to drop our heads.”

The Bull Sharks will now turn their heads towards their 2020 campaign as they seek to christen a football program that has seen a meteoric rise in just a few short years with a QAFLW premiership.
