Adrian Burgess to leave Tekno Autosports to join Supercars as head of motorsport

YATALA’S Tekno Autosports have been dealt a setback with the departure of Supercars guru Adrian Burgess.

YATALA’S Tekno Autosports have been dealt a setback with the departure of Supercars guru Adrian Burgess.

The Englishman had led the one-car team’s efforts this season, with driver Jack Le Brocq enjoying a solid rookie campaign at the wheel.

However, it has now been announced Burgess will exit the squad to join Supercars as head of motorsport.

He will replace David Stuart, who has moved to the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport, with a starting date yet to be determined.

Burgess’ motorsport career includes time in Formula One before stints with Supercars heavyweight teams Dick Johnson Racing, Triple Eight Race Engineering and Walkinshaw Racing.

He was part of four straight championships, in 2010 with DJR and the following three years with Triple Eight, before a troubled time with Walkinshaw that led to his axing.

He linked up with Tekno to rebuild their operations for 2018, having previously been a top five championship contender before slipping back to the midfield in the past two years.

Supercars chief executive Sean Seamer said many high-quality applications had come in for the job but believes Burgess’ experience and knowledge makes him ideal to oversee the direction of the sport that is set to include a new generation car in 2021.

“After spending more than 33 years working in race teams around the world, I feel it is the right time for me to move from poacher to game keeper,” Burgess added.

“I look forward to helping guide (Supercars’) pathway into the future.”
