Mudgeeraba Nerang have gone from strength to strength in Round 2 of the Taper Financial Premier League Division 1.
After taking down defending premiers Surfers Paradise last week by five wickets, the ‘bushmen’ went on to get the wood over Palm Beach Currumbin by four wickets on Saturday.
Palm Beach were looking dangerous with two major ins for the club in former Australian U19 representative and South Australian U19s captain Isaiah Borgas, and former Gold Coast Dolphins batsman Canning Mason, who was the club’s 2020 leading run scorer.
The Lions began strong with opening batsman and captain Zane Beattie scoring 47 from 50 balls, but it was Mudgeeraba’s Mackenzie Barclay who once again put the pressure on the Lions dismissing Mason for 7 (15).
Borgas was solid scoring 54 from 68, pushing the Lions to a score of 8/202.
For Mudgeeraba, Dayne Siede’s half century was pivotal in the chase, while Josh Nelson scored 47 from 64 balls.
Barclay finished with 3/36 and Jai Kurt took 3/43.
Over at Tamborine Mountain, Burleigh secured a narrow eight-run win over Alberton Ormeau.
Playing coach Jimbo Martin was excellent for the Bullsharks scoring 71 from 95 balls, including five fours and a six, and taking four catches as wicketkeeper.
Despite being on the losing side, Alberton’s Corey Galloway put on a show taking 4/23 from 6.2 overs.
In Helensvale, the home side finished with a draw against Runaway Bay.
After his century in Round 1, Helensvale’s Harry Lickiss entered with a target on his back but was dismissed early by Steven Graham after just one run from eight balls.
Brother Jack Lickiss did his best to make up for the loss scoring 65 from 69 balls.
Queens continued their hot streak in Round 2 against Coomera Hope Island.
Queens batted first scoring 270 and then bowled Coomera out for 140.
Broadbeach Robina redeemed themselves after a Round 1 smashing, batting 186 against Surfers Paradise and then bowling them out for 170.
