The Round 1 Team of the Week has been decided, with competition favourites Palm Beach Currumbin taking the first bye.
Round 1 Team of the Week
1. Harry Lickiss (Helensvale)
117 runs, 73 balls, 7 fours, 10 sixes, 160.27 SR
Lickiss was prolific for Helensvale on the weekend amassing 117 from 73 balls, including an impressive 10 sixes. He then topped off his century taking 1/7 from four overs. Expect to see the 21-year-old in plenty more Teams of the Week if he keeps up this form.
2. Nathan Reardon (Surfers Paradise)
64 runs, 57 balls, 6 fours, 2 sixes, 112.28 SR
It comes as no surprise the former Australian T20 rep is in Round 1’s TOTW, despite being on the losing side. Reardon scored 64 runs from 57 balls until he was dismissed by fellow TOTW bowler Mackenzie Barclay. Surfers ended up going down to Mudgeeraba by five wickets.
3. Corey Galloway (Alberton Ormeau)
35 runs, 79 balls, 3 fours and 44.3.
Galloway played a major role in Alberton Ormeau’s 75-run win against Runway Bay. Galloway went on a good run with captain Reece Neyland who scored 26 (48). After drawing his team out to a comfortable margin, he then sealed the deal taking 3/9 from 3.3 overs.
4. Mitchell Freeman (Queens)
65 runs, 92 balls, 3 fours, 2 sixes, 70.65 SR
The opening batsman for Queens was key to their win, scoring 65 from 92 balls. His run with Steven Baker was excellent, where Baker scored 35 (39). In addition Freeman took 1/23 from four overs.
5. Joshua Nelson (Mudgeeraba)
49 runs, 77 balls, 2 fours, 63.63 SR
Joshua Nelson’s score of 49 from 77 balls gave Mudgeeraba the best shot they would have at taking down the defending champions.
6. Mackenzie Barclay (Mudgeeraba)
3/38 from 8 overs, 4.75 E
Another heavyweight for Mudgeeraba was Mackenzie Barclay, who dismissed Nathan Reardon after he accumulated a half century. He then made a second statement by dismissing captain Aaron Densley, after which Demons struggled.
7. William Hudgson (Alberton Ormeau)
4/17 from 7 overs, 2.42 E
Taking 4/17 from 7 overs, Hudgson was key to Alberton Ormeau’s success. Hudgson took several early wickets to put the pressure on straight away and gave Runaway Bay no real hope at the game. He scored two not out from six balls.
8. Josh Henderson (Coomera Hope Island)
3/21 from 6 overs, 3.5 E
Josh Henderson too key wickets against two of Coomera’s key players in Hiran Wickramasekera and Dhanushka Mitipolaarachchi to turn the pressure on for Southport.
Henderson also scored 44 from 52 balls, at a rate of 84.61, proving he is good with both the bat and the ball.
9. Ryan Maloney (Helensvale)
2/25 from 8 overs
Ryan Maloney started the game strong for Helensvale, getting Trent Keep out for a duck and then dismissing Connar Robson after only 14 runs when he was looking dangerous with three fours. Maloney scored 14 from 14 balls.
10. Jackson Winton (Queens)
3/23 from 8 overs, 2.87 E
Jackson Winton took several early wickets, but it was the dismissal of key signing Rob Lord who got out for a duck. This was arguably the game changer for Queens, who kept Burleigh’s score to 8/161. Jackson scored 4 not out from 3 balls.
5/20 from 8 overs, 2.5 E
Mitchell Johnson was sensational for Southport Labrador in their 74-run win over Coomera Hope Island. The bowler took five wickets from eight overs and put on a show with captain Phil Tunnicliffe. Johnson got both Alastair Fitzpatrick and Lucas Poeppmann out for a duck.
